When free wi-fi isn't such a good deal

When I bring my Subaru to the dealer (Patrick Subaru in Shrewsbury) for service, I also bring along my laptop. I've used the free wi-fi to do whatever it is that I do while waiting for my car. During my recent visit, I've discovered that the dealer has implemented web filtering, meaning that I am blocked from certain classes of sites. Not just specific sites, mind you, but groups of sites such as News.

I can understand, sort of, why they might want to block some sites so that employees aren't wasting time on-line or downloading stuff that might be dangerous to their network. Blocking customers from news sites, however, renders the free service less than useful.
