Why Holden needs three national pharmacy chains

Another in the occasional series about Holden's need for three national pharmacy chains.

The irresistible impulse of retailers to anchor their businesses to holidays or themes shows up this week in premature back-to-school promotions. Even with temperatures hitting their stride, it's never too early to diminish kids' summertime joy.
Walgreens puts their sales on the first page of their local weekly ad.

Rite-Aid exercises comparative restraint by sneaking theirs onto the bottom page.

Only CVS wins the point by having no back-to-school sale yet. Instead, you can get free gas with your high-fiber cereal.

Because we need three stores to give us opportunities to buy stuff for Mom that is sure to make her wonder what kind of kid would give a mother stuff such as this.

Yes, Mom wants to know that she needs to be stuffed into a smaller size except for the parts that need to seem larger:

My mother didn't do well with house plants. As a joke, I think, my father bought her a cactus. Guess how much she liked the joke.

And, finally, who wouldn't want to give Mom some of these special products?

Nothing says the resurrection of Jesus proves His victory over sin and death like a bucket of Flarp! in your child's Easter basket.

Meanwhile, at the other stores, you can get a better deal on Gimbal's Jelly Beans at CVS (2 for $4) than at Rite-Aid (2 for $5).

Only at Rite-Aid, however, can you get a copy of the latest Sherlock Holmes movie for "a vibrant and colorful Easter"

Why Holden needs three national pharmacy chains

Because nothing marks the season of the advent of our Lord and Savior than a special deal on Mucinex:

And, speaking of reindeer, Walgreens offers a cute, if non-specific reindeer

While CVS gives you Rudolph...

And, bless them, RiteAid gives you the really creepy reindeer ...

who'll sell you just what you want to get for your mother or wife or girlfriend...

Why Holden needs three pharmacy chains

Not only do we get Literary Links that lead to CVS, we also get paper towels for cheap. (Walgreens has a slight price edge.)

Meanwhile, it's a real test of our love of Baby Jesus that we do our shopping at a place that has a creepy reindeer presiding over it all:

While you're waiting until November 13th at CVS

Or, no later than November 15th at Rite-Aid

You can put on smells that are girl-approved,

and look oh, so cool at Walgreens.

Why Holden needs three pharmacy chains

Just a reminder that the good folks of Holden are still struggling along, bearing up under great privation, with only two national pharmacy chains (Rite-Aid and CVS) in town. A third, Walgreens, is under construction on Main Street.
We need Walgreens so that we can figure out what to do. They're offering a sale on the Intelligender gender prediction test kit.

You can find out in as little as 10 weeks into your pregnancy whether you'll be buying pink or blue clothes for that little darling.
In the old days, of course, folks had to wait until the baby was born before know if the baby was a boy or girl. And, what's worse, the rules changed along the way. This clipping, from the Ladies' Home Journal in 1918 (via Out of the blue and in the pink) shows that pink was regarded as a stronger color and, therefore, more suitable for boys.

Whatever the color scheme, Walgreens can help you find out early, if there's a Walgreens in your town. Which there isn't is our fair town. At least not yet.

Only at Walgreens can you celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior with a 4 ft. Lighted Airblown Inflatable Bunny.

At Rite-Aid, with Altered State nitric oxide supplement, perhaps you can build the muscle that would let you roll away the stone, but the product info doesn't say that it works when you're dead.

Meanwhile, at CVS, you can get an Animated Easter Friend. They're not even calling it a bunny. But, it's animated, so it's got life and life is what Easter's all about, isn't it?
