The Charlottetown "Covers Prince Edward Island Like The Dew" Guardian reports that the East Coast seal hunt opens in southern Gulf of St. Lawrence.
What's more, it's bigger and better this year. According to the CBC reports that federal Fisheries Minister Gail Shea set the annual harp seal quota at 280,000 animals, an increase of 5,000 from last year.
Meanwhile,according the New York Times, the European Union is considering a ban on all seal products. Russia has announced that it will ban the hunting of baby seals.
