A barefoot walk through the edge of the 'burb

We learn from this article, Shoes are Ruining Our Feet, that barefoot walking is the best, something I've known and practiced for a long time. This time of year, our tootsies are emerging from the shoes and boots of winter, so the first long walk of the season is apt to be a slow one. It's ok because, on a fine day such as today, there's no better place to be than out and around.

Weather forecasters have a window rule: before you go on the air, look out the window. That way, you're less like to call for a sunny day if it's cloudy outside. Well, the window rule has other applications as well. For example, there's a road in town called Birchwood Drive. The person who named the street should have had a look outside. There you would see no birches, at least none of the white birch trees that we'd expect to see. Plenty of oak, maple, pine, and other varieties, but nary a birch.
