East meets west

On Sunday afternoon, we were talking about the latest craziness on the Korean peninsula. We wondered why it is that China kept backing North Korea when, it seemed, the larger country got nothing but grief and the small country got lots of aid and protection, no matter how stupidly it behaved. A small, nuclear-armed outlier nation was setting the agenda and was out of control.
