Sandra and I are packed and ready to go.

The cool air from the coast has pushed inland. This morning we're in the mid-40's with low clouds and fog.

We'll get to the camp this afternoon, although most of our thoughts are focused on getting ready for our trip. A sauna will feel good tonight. We don't have a lot to do at the camp until the water warms up. Then, there are several projects around the shore and dock.

This morning we're getting our new washing machine and dryer. We'll have a chance to do a couple of loads of wash before our trip.

What will I think of this time after I return to work? Will this journal and the music project and getting caught up on sleep be enough? What else will I wish that I would have done? Visited friends? Completed a new project at the camp or at home? Good questions and more to come. It's no wonder that I'm sad at the prospect of returning to work. It makes me not want to answer my phone or read my email.

Remembering a theme from the Pogo comic strip, Friday the 13th comes on a Thursday this month. Little bad luck so far. It's a fine day, sunny with temps in the mid-60's. I spent an hour trimming the shrubbery in front of the house. The shrubs had been damaged by January's deep cold. The tiredness in my arms makes me glad that I don't do landscaping for a living.

So, I might have a job offer. Lots of things can derail it, so I won't put a lot of details here yet. If anything does come of this opportunity, it won't start until some time in June. I may ask for an extra two weeks off, even without pay, during the negotiations. Marley and I had to go out a couple of times so that I could fax the application and various supporting documents to the company.

A red-winged blackbird has been hanging around our bird feeders. I don't have a telephoto lens, so it's hard to get a good picture of it.

A couple of geese are noisily circling the area. There is a small pond a couple hundred yards from our house, a year-round home to geese and ducks. Something is making these geese particularly chatty.

I'm nearing the end of my music digitization project. I still have perhaps a hundred more discs, classical, soundtracks, show tunes, and Christmas music. I've stored 1115 albums and will work at the rest as I have time. At approximately six minutes per disc, that translates into 110 hours to get the discs online. I'm glad that the CD drive held up. I could almost fill a second iPod.

Today I'll have lunch with Fred in Cambridge. I'll also stop in Lexington to see a couple of people. As I've remarked in emails, I'm certainly blessed with wonderful friends. A lot of people have been willing to help, to provide direction in my job search, to provide encouragement, to provide substantive leads.

I have one opportunity that has a couple of yellow flags - high turnover and the potential that weekend travel would be required.

I'm trying a new template for the blog. The Blogger redesign offers many more templates. I'll probably try a few before settling on one.

Album 1000 was Live at Blues Alley by Wynton Marsalis. I'm guessing that I have a couple hundred more to go. I've been discarding some CDs, donating them to our local library.

I use Blogger, a division of Google, to handle this web log. Blogger launched an new user interface today. (You can read more about it here.) I may be trying some of the new features and templates. Stay tuned.

A good weekend. We went to the camp Friday evening and spent Saturday morning on our spring cleanup. We returned home on Saturday afternoon and discovered that our washing machine is singing in the choir eternal. After quick visit to the Consumer Reports web site, followed by a trip to Sears, we have a new washer and dryer scheduled for delivery on Friday. Both machines were nearly 25 years old.

Krista made her first communion on Sunday. To celebrate the event, Mike and Lynn had a grand family gathering. Mother's Day was also given the appropriate honors. We ate too much and had little for supper.

The countdown to Disney continues. Today and tomorrow I'll work my way through the to-do list.

Friend G. has return from a week at a treatment facility on the Cape. We'll light a candle for him. He's not been able to stay clean and sober for more than a few months at a time. Yesterday he looked weary, but willing to change what's he's been doing.
